Adam Stocking, Student Intern
Supervised by Dr. Nicole Vargas, LMFT-S
Adam is a Marriage and Family Therapy student at Amberton University, currently completing his practicum semesters under supervision of Dr. Vargas. After 13 years in IT security, he followed a lifelong desire to help people who are struggling and became a therapist. He is passionate about working with couples and family systems.
Integrating Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with other models, Adam works with couples who feel stuck in recurring negative cycles. Together, they identify these patterns, explore the underlying attachment dynamics, and build toward a more secure, connected relationship.
Adam helps couples set realistic, meaningful goals for both their day-to-day relationship and their sexual connection, in a space that supports honest, deep, and sometimes difficult conversations. He is Prepare/Enrich certified, has completed Level 2 training in the Gottman Method, and has foundational training in EFT. He is also currently enrolled in the Sexual Health Alliance program, working toward an AASECT-certification for sex therapy.
Adam is committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and nonjudgmental environment where couples of any background, belief, or faith tradition feel welcomed and respected. He meets each couple with care, humility, empathy, and curiosity, honoring their unique story.
In his spare time, Adam enjoys spending time with his wife of 19 years, 2 kids, and their pets. Fun fact: Adam is also married to a therapist! Can you imagine the conversations in their home?
